Tulum Mayan Ruins

We spent the day at the Playa Pescadores (see beach post here) in Tulum, Mexico and took an hour or two out of the day to explore the “zona arquelogica de Tulum” or mayan ruins of Tulum.

Walk from the Beach to the Ruins

The walk from the Playa Pescadores beach is about 10-15 minutes. We walked up the beach until we couldn’t any longer and took the road up from there.

Don’t feel like walking? Bikes are available for rent at the beach or in town.

Cost of entry

Approximately 40 pesos each. Extra for a guide.

Walk it alone for or have a guided tour for a little more. We opted to go without a guide, it was really hot and we wanted to be quick!

can you go to the Tulum Mayan Ruins without a tour?

Yes! Definitely. You do not have to take a tour bus to the Tulum Mayan ruins, a taxi is just as safe and WAY cheaper.

My mom rented a condo for a month, and had each of us kids come visit a different week of the month. We rented a car and did not stay on a resort and so we explored Mexico via self-guided tours… or Mom-guided tours. I definitely recommend going this route. And not once did we feel unsafe without the comfort of a tour bus near by.
