TRAVEL Mexico | Cenote Taak Bi Ha, Riviera Maya

We were the only people when we arrived at Cenote Taak Bi Ha

cenote Taak bi ha

Taak Bi Ha is a private, family owned cave cenote. It is only a short path from the parking lot to the entrance of the cenote. The entrance, had their not been stairs leading up to it, could easily be mistaken for a black hole in the ground, appearing to go no where. A few steps down into the hole and it opens up to a beautiful underground cave cenote with the most beautiful crystal clear turquoise water. Stalactites drip from the ceilings and stalagmites collect on the cavern floors.

This was the least busy of all the cenotes that we saw and we had the place to ourselves for the majority of the time that we were there.

Unfortunately my hard drive broke and I’m missing MY pictures from this part of the trip, these are a collection of my mom’s cellphone photos and Eric’s photos.

Using instagram to find travel destinations

I happened upon this place through instagram! While searching through the cenote hashtag on instagram I noticed that the pictures from here had very little people in them. Since my parents had a rental car, we did a lot of self-guided tours. I found where this place was on the map and we set out to find it! Unlike the cenote my step-dad saw on google maps (that turned out to be a giant water pump station :P), this was a successful find.

Taak Bi Ha Cenote was in my top 3 best cenotes in Mexico that we went to.

Hours

9-5pm - every day of the week (but double check before you go!)

cost

A little bit more expensive than neighbouring Cenote Dos Ojos, the cost of entry at Cenote Taak Bi Ha is 350 pesos to do a self-guided tour of the cenote. I believe this included snorkelling gear, however I can’t be certain, we had our own.

If we were to do it again, I would pay the extra 50 pesos for a guided tour. Some areas inside the cenote were in darkness and we would have seen a lot more of the interior caves if we had gone with a guided tour. Guides bring a flashlight ;).

It is only a short path from the parking lot to the entrance of the cenote which is essentially looks just like a black hole in the ground.

My step-dad’s middle name is Xtreme. You can tell, because of the way that he is. Here’s the two of us checking out some pretty neat nature and respecting the stalactites distance.
