HOW TO PROPAGATE MONSTERA DELICIOSA
Is your monstera plant growing out of its pot? You can either create some sort of vertical support so your plants can grow UP instead of OUTside of it’s pot or you could trim it down and propagate!
Steps for rooting monstera in water
1. Locate a section of your monstera with at least two leaves and a node present
2. Use a pair of sharp gardening snips to cut on an angle below the node
3. Place cutting in water in a glass vase.
4. Wait a few weeks and watch your roots grow!
5. Plant after a month or so
6. Keep soil moist for the next couple of weeks or until a new leaf starts to form. (this is to ease the transition from water to soil)
NOTE: I am no expert when it comes to house plants. I’m just sharing what has worked for myself over the last couple of years.

WHERE DO I CUT MY MONSTERA FOR PROPAGATION?
Below a node. Mature stems will have a root node protruding from the base of the stem.

Nodes are found at the base of the stem or where two stems meet. It will start off as just a bump and eventually turn into an aerial root.

Short and sweet is no. You cannot propagate a monstera leave with no node, the node is the root. No node? Your monstera isn’t ready to propagate.

Can you propagate a monstera in water?
Yes! 100 %! This is my preferred method, watching the roots grow is extremely satisfying.

It took about 2-3 weeks before the mother Monstera had regrowth from the area the stem was cut.
repotting my monstera Plant after propagation
Before repotting my plant, I affixed a wooden dowel to the bottom of my planter pot with a screw. When my monstera grows larger, the pole will provide enough support for the plant to climb.
When repotting a water propagated Monstera plant, use an insert if your pot does not have holes in the bottom of it. Keep the soil moist for the first couple weeks to ease the transition from water to soil.
Since Monstera plants like to climb, I have a pole fixed in the middle of my pot. When my plant grows larger I will use this pole to tie up the plant.
After Repotting
Heres a couple photos of my Monstera after repotting. I decided to turn the pole into a moss pole, I almost wish i made a larger one… these babies grow fast!!!
